NextAction is a task-management app built to keep almost everything on your iPhone. The tasks, projects, contexts, and reviews you enter are stored only in the app's local database on your device. We do not run accounts, logins, analytics, or advertising, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone.
There is one optional feature that leaves the device: the Waiting For "Nudge" link. If you choose to create one, the task's title and the first name you type in are sent to a small server we run so the person you are waiting on can reply with a tap, without installing the app. Nothing else about that task, and nothing about any other task, ever leaves your phone. If you never use that feature, NextAction makes no network requests at all.
Everything you enter into NextAction, task titles, notes, due dates, contexts, projects, your weekly review history, and your review streak, is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device SwiftData framework. None of it is transmitted to Canyon Sky Rain LLC or to anyone else, and none of it leaves your device unless you use the Nudge feature described below.
The app also includes an on-device suggestion feature in the Clarify screen, which can propose how to organize something you've captured. On devices that support it, this runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device language model; on other devices it runs a set of local rules. Either way, nothing about what you type is sent anywhere to generate a suggestion, and a suggestion is only ever applied to your data if you tap to accept it.
If you delete the app, this locally stored data is removed from your device along with it.
NextAction does not create an account for you, does not require sign-in, and does not talk to our servers for normal use, capturing, clarifying, organizing, reviewing, and reading your Momentum report all happen entirely on your device.
The one exception is the optional Nudge feature. It appears only on items you've marked Waiting For, and only if you choose to tap "Create Nudge Link." When you do, the app sends two things to a server we operate: the title of that one task, and the first name you type in so the recipient knows who the nudge is from. That server generates a private link you can share (by text, email, or any other method you choose) so the person you're waiting on can tap "Done" or "I need more time" and, optionally, leave a short note back, without installing NextAction or creating an account of their own. The app also checks that server for a reply on items where you've created a nudge link.
Nudge data is deleted from our server automatically 60 days after it's created, whether or not it was ever answered. We do not use this data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond operating the nudge link itself, and we do not sell or share it with third parties.
NextAction does not currently schedule any local or push notifications. Nothing in the app will alert you about due dates, tickler dates, or anything else outside the app itself.
NextAction does not request or access your location, camera, photo library, contacts, or any health or fitness data. When you delegate a task or reply to a nudge, you type a name in as plain text; the app never reads your device's contacts to do this.
NextAction is free to use and does not currently offer any in-app purchases or subscriptions. The app does not collect, store, or process any payment or billing information.
Beyond the Nudge feature described above, we collect nothing. NextAction has no analytics, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifiers, and no tracking of any kind, and it does not use Apple's iCloud/CloudKit sync in this version, so your data is not copied to any Apple server by the app either.
NextAction is a general-audience productivity tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the only data the app ever transmits (through the optional Nudge feature) is a task title and a first name the user chooses to type in themselves.
Data you enter into NextAction stays on your device for as long as you keep the app installed, and is removed when you delete the app. Nudge data on our server (a task title, a first name, and any reply) is retained for 60 days from creation and then automatically deleted, regardless of whether it was answered. To remove a nudge sooner, stop sharing the link; the server does not retain any other record tied to you.
If we change how NextAction handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. We encourage you to check back here from time to time.
